What’s New in 2012?

We are happy to announce that USA Track & Field Adirondack will be taking over the management of the event once again. The team will be led by George Regan, Patrick Lynskey, and Bob Barnes. Barnes and Regan worked together on the trot for 13 years, ending in 2009. The team is looking forward to making an immediate impact on the event by ensuring that participants, spectators, and sponsors all have a fun, safe, and professionally managed experience. Some of the other changes on tap include:

Course Change
The 5k and 10k courses will return to the historic out-and-back format on River St, allowing you to be able to spot your friend in front or behind you. Also, we will have seeded start sections that will help to ensure a smooth start and plenty of space for the thousands of runners. The 10k will be two loops of the 5k course.

Start Times
Start times are being set up to allow the 10k to go off first at 8:00 a.m., followed by the 5k at 9:45 a.m. This will help to ensure you have plenty of time after your race to prepare for the day’s much larger event: the Thanksgiving Day celebration with your loved ones.

Grade School Mile Is FREE
No fee will be charged for the grade school mile. All grade school finishers will receive a commemorative participation medal (while supplies last).

Team Awards In 5K
Eight new team award categories will be up for grabs in the 5K including: mother/daughter; mother/son; father/daughter; father/son; sister/sister; brother/brother; brother/sister; and husband/wife.

Improved Traffic Flow to Race Venue
We are working with Troy City Government to ensure an easy drive into Troy and plenty of parking spots. Our pre-race communications will stress the best route and parking options for you — both before and after the event.

Chip Timing
Once again we will be chip timing this event with the popular B-Tag which will be affixed to your bib, and which you can either recycle with us or keep as a commemorative item.

Virtual Training Program
If you’re new (or sort of new) to running we have a program for you: our Virtual Training Program. Three times a week we send e-mails with workouts and tips from our coaches, nutritionist and injury-prevention specialist to get you primed and prepared for the 5k on November 22, 2012. You can learn more here.
